The District Nurses go to housebound patients who have a nursing need such as: • Continence assessments and monitoring • Diabetes education and monitoring • Injections • Education - Health promotion, nutrition and catheters. • Advice/Support • Palliative advice & care • Fast response care • Wound Care • Risk assessments • Equipment provision

Health visitors are qualified nurses who have taken further specialist training in community and child health. They will help you to keep your family healthy by offering health promotion advice and developing community initiatives and child health programmes. They also initiate and develop public health programmes to support the health of local communities, such as health promotion campaigns and accident prevention and child safety programmes. In fact you can ask your health visitor for advice on any health related issue. A health visitor visits every family with a new baby. This continues until the child reaches five years of age. You can see your health visitor at home, at a child health clinic or by attending a postnatal or parenting group.
